2021.11.27 23:50 ArtistWriter Why is it ok to hurt me?
Is there something wrong with me? That makes it ok? I feel like there must be or that I'm going crazy. Because I feel like something that's less than human. Maybe bacteria or an insect. I dont think I'd ever treat anyone the way you've treated me.
I honestly don't care about your opinions or your ideas. I dont care about you and a part of me wishes you were dead. But I just wish I understood why. I want to understand why. I cant understand and I'm trying to because if someone can be beaten and yelled at and belittle. If someone can be gaslight and invalidated and unloved. Then that someone must not be human right?
You dont even beat me anymore and I wish you would. So I can understand why I still feel the way I did when I was cowering in a corner trying to get as far from your belt as possible. What made it ok?

2021.11.27 23:50 RPGBurnerAccount Player makes uncooperative character, complains for lack of 'engagement'.
My GM started a campaign a few months back in a modern urban fantasy setting. One player decided to make a 'troubled orphan kid' character, with the intent of having her develop over time to become more open and friendly. We're ten sessions in and that has not happen.
And we've all been trying. GM had multiple NPCs directly speak to her. Had the mentor NPC take particular interest in her and try to teach her directly. Had an NPC from the backstory appear and ask her about her life. My character has repeatedly engaged with her, tried teaching her magic, gave her gifts, tried hanging out with her, asks her questions about her backstory, gave weapon suggestions, etc.
And the character has repeatedly rebuked these attempts. Shutting down conversations, barely talking to NPCs that directly speak to her, spacing out during team planning discussions, repeatedly saying that she sleeps through classes and ignores the teacher NPCs, saying that she doesn't care when we're coming up with plans, etc.
At one point the player got inspired by the new Venom movie and asked the GM to give the character a Venom-like being which speaks to her. GM said sure and found a way to make it work. Player proceeded to ignore Not-Venom at every turn. Which... I mean, that one makes sense, since Not-Venom is immensely rude and kind of shitty at times but like... that's what the player asked for. What did they expect?
Anyway, last week marked the 10th session of the game, so the GM posted a short questionnaire about how players are enjoying it. "What do you want more of," "name one goal for your character at this point," etc.
That Player said they're 'hoping for more things to engage us'. Like... what more do you want??? You already have NPCs and PCs constantly trying to talk to you, you have a mystical voice that you asked for trying to speak to you, you have me trying to help you train and figure out build ideas, and you still don't think you have enough stuff trying to engage you?
I'm not even the GM and I'm immensely frustrated by this. I talked to the GM and she said she felt really dejected since she had tried really hard and apparently it wasn't working. GM's planning on having a private conversation with that player and asking what they want, since everything else she's been trying apparently isn't working. I'm really hoping the player can give actionable suggestions on what they're expecting since I don't want the GM to blame herself for the player deciding to make an obstinate, antisocial character and then getting disappointed that they aren't being engaged enough.

Ok. So maybe I'm just overly worried or concerned but I never have felt comfortable hugging women because I feel uncomfortable knowing their chest might rub on me. I can't help feeling like women don't like it either. Then again I've always been one to care about what others think. I never want to offend anyone. Obviously hugging my wife is one thing. But anyone else I just don't like to. Cousins, friends....etc.

2021.11.27 23:50 cagueta Oh ancient spirits of the color trials, in thy names i sacrifice this lamb, heed my call.
So, i did the tier 1 trial and it pointed to grixis, i can't say i agree much, but who knows, right? I will say that this stuff is kinda difficult for me, as i tend to be ambivalent about most things in life, also i apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language, thanks to any of you who may read or try to analyze this.
1-Is it better to give everyone equal opportunity, rather than equal wealth?
Ideally both i guess, i think the idea that equal opportunity and equal wealth are mutualy exclusive come from the fact that we live in a capitalist society, in an ideal world people would work for more than a mere salary, basic nessecities would be granted to everyone so people would strife to perfect whatever is their chosen hobby or passion, of course this is all largely impossible, so maybe i would go with equal wealth? i do believe lack of wealth and of a secure and stable living condition hinders many trully talented people that could make a real difference to our society.
2-Do you think that people are responsible to themselves first and foremost?
yes probably, i mean we should look after the people that are close to us as well, but at the end of the day, no one else is going to carry our weight but us, we are alone more often than not, and if we can't take care of ourselves we might end up pulling other people down and that is a terrible felling, maybe it is not the we are responsible, it's just that we have no other choice.
3-Should we guide ourselves by our feelings, and pursue our wildest dreams?
I wouldn't know, i don't seem to have any wild dreams or great passions in me, but i do like seeing people follow their own, it's a beautiful concept, if you want to be a realist about it, it is probably not a good idea but at the end of the day it is your choice, do you want to go after your dreams even at the risk of it backfiring horribly and screwing up your living condition for the rest of your life? or do you want to strive for a more confortable living condition even at the risk of feeling like you could have been more? i will go for the second option, but more power to you bud!
4-Is it more important to have a better plan than a better execution?
Ultimately a better execution is more important, as endless planning will lead to nothing, of course that, having only good execution will make you nothing more than a tool at the disposal of people with better planning skills, so a balance is required, i myself have found balance between planning and execution, for i have neither.
5-Are we directly responsible for our successes and failures?
it depends on the success and the failure in question, for example, if you did not study at all for your final tests and flunked at school, that is totally on you (unless you have adhd or something, or didn't have the time because you have to go to work to help at home) but some stuff are not really up to you, if you are interested in a person and they reject you, you might be inclined to consider that a failure, but it was never up to you in the first place, and you might say that one is responsible for being rejected because they could have worked more on themselves, but having worked more on yourself does not necessarily equate to not being rejected (terrible example, i know).
6-Do our lives have a higher purpose or meaning?
Nah dude, we are just mammals, the difference between us and other mammals, is that we are self-concious, which gives us the pesky need to conceptualize everything, including ourselves, ironically while self-conciousness is what differentiates us from other animals, it is also what originates all of our problems, both of the individual and of society as a whole, some people think that we should abolish society because of this, but i believe that as long as we have self-conciousness, being organized in a society is probably better than the alternative, ideally we should be able to shed away our conciousness and become normal animals, in doing so we might spare the world of the destruction we cause upon it.
7-Is human nature, generally speaking, good?
Human nature is being mammals and doing mammal things, it is neither good nor evil, for good and evil are constructs of human tought, one thing i very much disagree with is the idea that instinct in itself is evil, i believe that what we consider to be evil is instinct tainted by human tought, and that what we consider good is human tought, free from instinct, i myself believe that "good" is necessary in the individual, if only to make it easier to be around others.
8-Should individuals give up some of their rights and freedoms for safety in society at large?
Definetively not, the role of society it to set up a standard that allows for large groups of people to coexist, it is surely necessary in a societal level, but on an individual level "it is more like a guideline than a rule" as captain barbossa would say, of couse that there are limits to that line of tought, one's freedom should never hinder the freedom of another.
9-Is there any point in trying to do more than what's good enough?
No, but yes, let me try to explain myself, there isn't anything inherently worth it in doing more than "good enough", but "good enough" is dependent on the expectations other people have placed upon you, and exceding those expectations will often result greater reward, as such one should definetively try to do more than "good enough".
10-Do you believe that some parts of ourselves are too inherent to ever be changed?
Again, no, but yes ( i swear i am not doing this on purpose, sorry) you see, the self is to complex to be truly pinned down in an ideia of "you", much like what we see when we look at an object on the world is just an representation created by reflexion of light hitting our eyes, what we think we understand when we look inwards is but a narrative our brain puts together, pulling from thousands of phenomena that take place in our minds, these phenomena are conditioned to happen in many ways that can vary from person to person, this process of what makes you "you" is unchangeable, but the narrative that we create from this process is up for change.
11-Do you think we should improve ourselves before improving the world?
I think the only thing we can do is improve ourselves, we can only improve the world as a result of the way we may or may not have improved ourselves.
12-In our society, is stability more important than advancement?
On a societal level stability is much more valued than advancement, on and individual level advancement is much more valued than stability, it does not help that we live in a culture that pushes the individual into the quest for material advancement even at detriment to one's mental health.
13-Do you see passing on your knowledge to others as detrimental to yourself?
Of couse not, gaining new knowledge in exchange of knowledge you already own is the most marvelous way of building knowledge, people have a very limited view of what could constitute as knowledge, every experience in life is a venue of gaining new knowledge of the world and people in it, every ideology, every food, every music and every joke, from history books to pick up lines, it is all valued knowledge of the world and the beings that live in it.
14-When doing a task, is it more important to have dedication, rather than information?
Information is far more important, even if you are not dedicated, you can get it done eventualy, but if you are only dedicated and have no information you will only hit your head against the wall and never get anything actually done.
15-Do you think delayed gratification is worth the wait?
It depends on what the gratification is, if we are talking about money and getting paid, you shouldn't have to wait, everyone needs money as soon as they can get it, if we are talking about praise, i would rather not get any at all.
16-Which is better, freedom or power?
Freedom is probably more enjoayable than power, power as it is seen in our society is too much of a headache, freedom in my eyes would also mean being out of the radar of powerful people by the way.
17-Do you value expressing yourself to those around you more than you value introspecting and growing as a person?
I value both equaly, if i were to fully introspect and never express myself my mind would become an endless cycle of the same ideas over and over, because there is no input going out, and no new inputs coming in, if i were to just express myself and never instrospect, i would definetively not be able to put out any valuable inputs for other people to pick up.
18-Would you prefer living in harmony with the world around you, or free and unconstrained by it?
As i see it, the only way to be free and unconstrained by the world is by finding a way to be in harmony with it, or at least with the way you see it, otherwise, you would just be acting like an "free and unconstrained" person as response to the constrains the world has put on you, ironically letting those constrains define the way you see yourself as a person.
19-Is benevolence more important than understanding in a good society?
Hell no, benevolence is one of those words that is very pretty but many times hides some real shit underneath it, a person who sees themself as benevolent, understands benevolence as an strict ideal, they many time harbor warped ideas on what benevolence is and use that word to hype themselves up as good people(similar to people who pride themselves on being "humble") more often than not, people who are understanding end up being more benevolent than the benevolent people, or not.
20-Do you think societies that forget about their culture and origins will be unsuccessful?
Not necessarily, but i do agree with the whole "a society who forgets the mistakes of the past is doomed to repeat them" stick, and i do have a tendecy to see the sociological values of culture and tradition.
21-Do you agree that one of the greatest threats we - society as a whole - must deal with is the rampant individualism that results in people harming one another?
No, individualism has always been a part of humanity, it is just more visible now with social media and globalization, things have always been just as fucked as they are now, if not worse.
22-Do you agree that one of the most dangerous pitfalls we face is complacency - thinking that there is a point where further improvement is either impossible or unnecessary?
i do think the impending doom of an utopian society might be upon us in the future, i hate complacency in this level, when it is dictated by society and directed towards other individuals, but i love the idea of stagnation towards the self, when you have reached a point in life in which you can just let yourself go with the current, and experience and appreciate every moment as it is.
23-Do you agree that one of the easiest ways to end up with an unsuccessful and unhappy life is to be beholden to others - to serve the interests of the group and the community while ending up neglecting your own?
Not necessarily, there are many ways to be beholden to other, if one truly neglects their own needs they will end up miserable, but there are people who make their needs, the needs of other people and as such they are never actually neglecting their own needs, i find that admirable, althought i would never do it myself.
24-Do you agree that one of the worst things that can happen to us is to forget to experience and enjoy life and all it has to offer, instead finding ourselves caught up in the details?
I think the details are a very important part of the experience of life that should enjoyed, i would argue that this question got it wrong, people get too wrapped up in grand ideias of what their lives are supposed to be and don't enjoy their limited days.
25-Do you agree that one of the most saddening aspects of the modern world is the overabundance of dishonesty, manipulation and hidden agendas meant to create conflict and disunity?
Nah, once again, that is just classic human depravity showing.
26-Do you agree that one of the biggest failures of modern-day society is thinking in terms of the group, forgetting that each and every one of us are individuals, unique and with personal ambitions?
I tend to agree with this, i believe we are all beautifully egocentric.
27-Do you agree that one of the easiest ways to end up with an unfulfilling and unhappy life is to refuse to listen to what your heart and gut tell you?
Meh, not really, you feel what you feel, if you choose to "listen" to it is up to you.
28-Do you agree that one of the most important concepts people should learn is responsibility - understanding that everyone has a duty to be good to one another?
The problem with is thinking of it as a duty, people don't like having dutys placed upon them, they lash out against it, being good to each other should be seen as a deal, mutually beneficial and agreed upon by both parties.
29-Do you agree that members of a society should partake in a collective effort for progress in the long term, even if it means sacrificing the individual’s desires in the short term?
Nah, fuck progress, embrace eating pizza or something.
30-Do you agree that power is needed for a successful life, and that the best way to get it is through constant innovation?
Not necessarily, it depends on what the person in question sees a sucessful life, my idea of "sucessful life" definetively requires no power.
31-Is knowledge acquired by directly experiencing the world for yourself, rather than by analyzing it as a puzzle, where each piece fits in a certain spot?
They are both wonderful ways of gaining knowledge, in my way of thinking they are one and the same.
32-Should relationships with others be built on authentic feelings, or because it's important for everyone to have the right social connections in order to succeed?
I don't really give a fuck, people base their relationships on whatever they want at that time.
33-Do you prefer having a slow and steady lifestyle, over a fast-paced, innovative one?
Slow and steady in general, but with some fast-paced innovative hobbies to spice it up.
34-Should you focus on taking advantage of the imperfect system that exists, instead of striving for a perfect one that might never exist?
taking advantage of the one that existis, striving for one that might never exist is to much trouble.
35-Do you think people become successful in a field because of the discipline they use in channeling their passion, or because of their determination and desire to improve their skills?
because of both, or because of any of them, or a mix of some abilities of both, or something that was not considered at all, each case is a case you can't say anything about it for sure.
36-Personally, I'd like to be more ___, even if that meant I was less ___.
organized | knowledgeable | influent | passionate | authentic
Personally, i would like to be more knowledgeable, even if that meant i was less influent
37-Out of these, I want to ___ the most.
help a lot of people | make a scientific discovery | become famous | be free to do anything | discover myself
Discover myself the most
38-Out of these, I don’t want to ___ the most.
hurt other people | set humanity back | die forgotten | lose my freedoms | be alienated from myself
Hurt other people the most
39-People, in general, should try to be more ___.
altruistic | logical | independent | caring | acceptant
40-People should try to have more perspective****
41-People, in general, should try to be less ___.
rigid | unempathetic | self-centered | impulsive | stuck in the past

2021.11.27 23:50 steeve725 Management asking for return to work packet for 2 weeks off of pre-approved scheduled sick leave
Back on November 5th I had kidney surgery. I put in for 2 weeks of sickleave in October, provided documentation and management scheduled my time off in advance.
This week (Thanksgiving week) I'm on bid annual in conjunction with my 2 weeks sick leave.
I'm scheduled to return to work on Tuesday 11/30/21
Today in the mail (3 days before I'm scheduled to go back to work) I get a return to work packet explaining I cannot report back to work until my doctor fills out the paperwork and it's approved.
How can they require a return to work packet for 2 weeks off of scheduled pre-approved sickleave that I provided documentation for?
Am I now not suppose to go back to work, go to the doctors to get the paperwork filled out, wait on management and burn my own sickleave or annual?
I'm in maintenance, and haven't had the chance to talk to the union yet about this.
Thanks for any insight. It's appreciated
